After slugger Carlos Santana (C, CLE) absorbed a foul ball to his facemask on Friday, CLE placed him on the seven-day concussion DL following reported post-game dizziness. Santana will be eligible to return to the team next week, but must first pass a series of concussion tests to be cleared for baseball activities.

Manny Parra (LHP, MIL) has been named as the rotation replacement for injured Marco Estrada (RHP, MIL), likely sidelined for three to four starts with a right quadriceps strain. Parra has displayed intriguing skills, including 9.2 Dom, 2.8 Cmd, 106 BPV, and a 52% GB%, in 19 relief appearances, spanning 24 IP. Those numbers correspond with his previous career marks in relief (86 IP): 3.34 ERA, with 9.6 Dom and 3.0 Cmd.

Skipper Robin Ventura confirmed earlier this week that which had become obvious from recent usage patterns: that Addison Reed (RHP, CHW) was now the team's primary closer. After naming Hector Santiago (LHP, CHW), then the infamous "committee" as the team's stopper over the first six-plus weeks, Ventura seems to have put his stamp on what skills-based analysts have been saying all along: that given his high strikeout rate (11.5 Dom), good Cmd (2.4), Reed is the best Sox reliever to have at the end of the game.

Manager Davey Johnson announced Tuesday that Henry Rodriguez (RHP, WAS) is being removed from the closer role and being replaced by a committee consisting of Tyler Clippard (RHP, WAS), Sean Burnett (LHP, WAS), and Craig Stammen (RHP, WAS) until Drew Storen (RHP, WAS) returns from the DL around July 1. The committee was officially launched on Tuesday night, with Clippard getting the first save opportunity and converting. Let's see what skills each brings to the table.

Kevin Youkilis (3B, BOS) was activated from the disabled list, got the start at first base, and homered in his first game back. Following a disappointing, injury-plagued 2011 season, he was off to a very slow start before hurting his back. In a small sample of 64 at-bats, Youkilis had seen his contact rate dip to 69% and his walk rate to 7%, and his uncharacteristically low 0.25 Eye had led to a .219 batting average. He was also lacking in the power department, as with a 20% fly ball rate, he had just a 91 PX and two home runs.

Geovany Soto (C, CHC) was placed on the 15-day DL Friday with a torn left meniscus. He will have arthroscopic knee surgery and is likely to miss 3-6 weeks. Wellington Castillo (C, CHC), an April callup, will assume regular catching duties until backup Steve Clevenger's (C, CHC) likely late-May return from a strained oblique. Career minor-leaguer Blake Lalli (C, CHC), profiled in Callups, was added to the roster as Castillo's temporary backup.

After another successful PQS-DOM start on Tuesday, Jordan Lyles (RHP, HOU) will remain the Astros rotation for time being, the club announced. Lyles had a spot start in April (also a PQS-DOM) and had sprinted out to a 5-0, 3.49 ERA start with a 4.0 Cmd in Triple-A before his May 15 callup.

Alex Presley (OF, PIT) entered the season as a popular sleeper in many fantasy leagues after a mini-breakout campaign in 2011, but he hit only .220 in his first 118 AB. He has especially struggled over the past three weeks, going only three for 44 since April 29. His problems have been largely of his own making, as he's given back all of the skills growth that fueled last season's breakout.
