Last season, owners of Cliff Lee suffered an unfortunate roto indignity. Despite pitching to a fine 3.16 ERA, Lee came away with only 6 wins. He earned just $17 in a season that should have generated 8-10 more wins and $8-$10 more dollars.
It's our ultimate frustration, isn't it? We watch our guys on the mound, often pitching brilliantly, but either their team's offense can't get going or the bullpen implodes.
It's a roto problem as long as the game has been in existence. I admit that I've been playing long enough to have owned Nolan Ryan during the 1987 season. That year, he led the league with a 2.76 ERA and 270 strikeouts but finished the season with an 8-16 record, thanks to a punchless Astros offensive attack.
