FANALYTICS: The Ever-expanding elite

When I was writing this week's USA Today piece about 2013's failed first-rounders, I stumbled upon an interesting problem.

There have been a lot of good players this year.

No, I mean a lot of really good players.

When we think about who might be high draft picks for 2014, we'll generally sort players into three categories:

1. Consistently elite talent
2. Rapidly rising stars
3. Former first-rounders with huge rebound potential

If you look at the player pool—even at this early date—you'll find all three categories teeming with talent. Frankly, I think there are more potential 2014 first round players than there are spots to slot them.
