FANALYTICS: Why Aren't We Ignoring Spring Stats?

In this week's column for USA Today, I questioned whether—despite all the warnings—fantasy leaguers might still be taking spring training statistics too seriously. I wrote:

"Both batters and pitchers are facing a mixture of minor and major league talent. Players are spending the month trying new approaches and working off the winter rust. It is not a true measure of the caliber of competition players will face once the real games start."

As a gauge of drafting tendencies, I looked at the Average Draft Position rankings (ADP) at Mock Draft Central.com on February 23—before spring training games—and then again on Opening Day.
