A new baseball season brings optimism, hope, and a fresh slate for all teams, real and fantasy.
On and before Opening Day, everyone is on a level playing field, all teams are contenders. But that rosy outlook can disappear quickly, and be replaced by uncertainty, before the first pitch is even tossed.
Four days before Opening Day, Washington Nationals manager Dusty Baker made the surprise announcement that Blake Treinen would serve as the team’s closer, upsetting fantasy owners who had already drafted Koda Glover or Shawn Kelley, either of whom was expected to get the ninth inning nod.
Goodbye level playing field. It’s time to spend the FAAB dollars.
As is often the case – surprise closer named, star slugger injured, spring training...
