As Tampa Bay continues to make a playoff push, it appeared that the team could be getting an important reinforcement after Shane McClanahan began a rehab assignment with AAA-Durham on July 18. However, while the team was planning for McClanahan to pitch three innings in the outing, he recorded just two outs on 27 pitches. Tampa Bay then issued an ominous update after McClanahan threw a bullpen on July 21. After the bullpen, in which he threw just 10 pitches, manager Kevin Cash stated that McClanahan “Felt OK, nothing great. So we’ll see how he comes in tomorrow. We’ll just see. I don’t have much to add right now.”

While it looks like McClanahan’s next rehab start is in doubt, the Rays still have a crowded...
