AL East: Mayo making case for a call-up

Since Jorge Mateo’s return from the IL on June 11, both Mateo (16 starts in 25 games) and Ramón Urías (14 starts in 25 games) have maintained semi-regular roles. The two have more or less rotated between one infield spot (either second base or third base) on most nights, largely depending on whether Jordan Westburg starts at second base or third base. In that time, Mateo (.197/.222/.344 in 63 PA) has struggled mightily at the plate, bringing his season line to a meager .229/.270/.411 in 191 PA and potentially putting his playing time at risk.

Urías has not fared much better than Mateo this season (.239/.309/.377 in 152 PA), though he has been a better hitter than Mateo since June 11 (.259/.344/.370 in 61 PA).
