DiVISIONAL OUTLOOK: NL Central—MIL SP youngsters to get a shot

With Yovani Gallardo (RHP, MIL) headed to the 15-day DL with a strained hamstring, rookies Tyler Thornburg (RHP, MIL) (pictured above) and Donovan Hand (RHP, MIL) could get extended rotation looks. Both Thornburg and Hand are likely to remain in the rotation while Gallardo is sidelined, and one might remain once Gallardo returns.  Thornburg earned a PQS-5 in his first 2013 MLB start July 30, posting six shutout innings with 6 K/3 BB after posting 11 K/5 BB in 18 IP in relief.

Control specialist Hand has made five starts among 17 appearances, with a 0%/40% PQS-DOM/DIS. His July 28 six-inning outing was his first start of more than five innings. Hand has 12 K/5 BB in 24.2 IP as a starter, and 22 K/9 BB in 43 IP...
