As mentioned here previously, Evan Gattis (C/LF, ATL) has taken over as the primary catcher with Brian McCann (C, ATL) out. Gerald Laird (C, ATL) has been relegated to the role of personal catcher to Julio Teheran (RHP, ATL). Gattis even got a start at first base on April 12 as the Braves were facing a left-hander and manager Fredi Gonzalez opted to use Chris Johnson (3B/1B, ATL) at third base over Juan Francisco (3B, ATL) while Laird started behind the plate with Teheran on the mound. Gattis played seven games at first base at the minor league level back in 2011, but otherwise hadn’t played the position as a professional.
