DIVISIONAL OUTLOOK: NL East—Ike Davis ready to reclaim everyday job?

Ike Davis (1B, NYM) has shown improvement since returning from the minors on July 5. The 26-year-old has made strides in patience and plate discipline, drawing 28 walks against 23 strike outs in 110 plate appearances. He has a .305/.482/.451 over that stretch, with 1 HR and 9 RBI. But a closer look reveals a 135 PX and a surprisingly low 6% hr/f–well below the hr/f rates he put up in the past (12% hr/f in 523 AB in 2010; 17% hr/f in 129 AB in 2011; 21% hr/f in 519 AB in 2012). One might reasonably project that with this renewed plate discipline and some normalization of his hr/f rate, he could close the season on a high note.
