A hand injury suffered by Yonder Alonso (1B, SD) in late August opened the door for Tommy Medica (1B, SD; pictured) to receive steady playing time upon his promotion to the majors. He had a breakout season for Double-A San Antonio, where he hit .296 with 18 home runs in just 280 at-bats in his first season at that level. The 25-year-old has held his own in the majors as well, as he's started out 8 for 30 with a couple of home runs.

As for Alonso, his contact rate has continued to rise, topping out at 86 percent this season. That approach will likely lead to a consistently high batting average, but it will come at the expense of his power. Alonso hit just six home runs in 334 at-bats, as his PX dipped to 56. He appears...
