DIVISIONAL OUTLOOK: NL West—Cashner joins rotation, Erlin called up

Tyson Ross (RHP, SD) recently landed on the disabled list with a left shoulder subluxation. It's unclear how long he will be out, but it's something the Padres are familiar with, as Dustin Mosely dealt with a similar issue off and on during the 2011 season.

In his absence, Andrew Cashner (RHP, SD) moved into the rotation, and allowed two runs over four innings April 20, while striking out five. He suffered a lacerated tendon in his thumb in a December hunting accident, which put him behind the other pitchers during spring training. He began the season pitching out of the bullpen, but the organization views him as a starter going forward. Cashner got another start April 26, and possesses significant upside if he can...
