NL Central: More playing time for Matt Shaw in Chicago

The Cubs may be in third place entering the weekend's interleague series against the Toronto Blue Jays, but it's been touch and go for Chicago for a while. They managed back-to-back series wins against the Giants on the road and the Rockies at home to get their record back up to 39-36, three games above .500, but eight games back of Milwaukee in the division.

They are looking for offense wherever they can find it, especially with the pitching injuries they've been dealt so far in the 2026 season. That could mean a lot of moves as manager Craig Counsell tries to find the hot bat and get them into the lineup. This week's beneficiary of that playing time is Matt Shaw.
