Padres’ top prospect Ethan Salas has been called up to the majors amid the team’s recent struggles (the team has 3 wins and 7 losses in its last 10, losing ground to the Diamondbacks for the final NL Wild Card spot). Salas could be an immediate help with his bat – BHQ rates him as the Padres’ top prospect, but that rating may not be quite as impressive as it would first appear. The system itself is virtually barren, receiving organizational grades of D- in hitting, pitching, top-end talent, and overall while earning a not-exactly-promising highest rating of D for the organization’s depth.
