NL West: McCarthy taking advantage of opportunity

OF Jake McCarthy had a very disappointing 2023 season, splitting time between Triple-A Reno (221 PA) and the Diamondbacks (312 PA). With OF Alek Thomas expected to be the regular CF against RHP, McCarthy’s role was uncertain heading into the 2024 season. However, Thomas' early season hamstring strain has provided McCarthy regular playing time at all three OF positions, and he's started 16 of the last 22 games. McCarthy has taken advantage of the opportunity, hitting .307/.369/.387 with 3 SB over 86 PA. He has shown excellent plate discipline with a 20% K% and 9% BB%.
