As the Tigers drag themselves across the finish line of the 2019 season, seemingly needing to improve in every area before even considering mounting a challenge for the AL Central crown, what are some positives Detroit can build on for 2020 and beyond?

On the pitching side, Matt Boyd (RHP, DET) stands out, in spite of faltering after the All-Star Break. Both his walk rate and his home runs allowed jumped drastically in the second half, which may temper expectations a bit. In August, the long ball was especially cruel, as Boyd surrendered 14 home runs in just 32.2 innings pitched (that’s 3.9 HR/9!), as batters teed off, compiling a shocking .941 OPS against which included a .617 slugging percentage.
