PT TOMORROW: AL Central—Boyd could bolster Tigers' bullpen

The Tigers' relievers began the morning of May 17 twenty-third in bullpen ERA (4.17), to go with a 1.35 WHIP and league-worst 85 K in 116.2 IP. Warwick Saupold (LHP, DET), reviewed May 14 in Call Ups, is a start, but more may be needed until the current corps can turn things around.

Detroit's already had a one-day visit from Matt Boyd (LHP, DET; pictured above), who tossed 4.2 shutout innings despite three BB. At Triple-A Toledo, he continues to keep International League batters off balance with a 1.93 ERA and 1.14 WHIP (42 IP) in spite of a career-low (minors) 6.9 Dom. The March 31 PT Tomorrow pointed out his issues with the long ball at the parent club in 2015 and spring training 2016, but so far the flyball pitcher...
