Looking for more power in the lineup, Manager Brad Ausmus has been playing J.D. Martinez (OF, DET) at the expense of Rajai Davis (OF, DET). Davis was expected to platoon with Andy Dirks (OF, DET) this season, but Dirks’ spring training injury opened the door to Davis playing regularly. Davis has batted .274 with four HR, 19 RBI, and 19 SB. While Martinez has not shown the power he did in April when he hit 10 HR at Triple-A Toledo, he has hit three HR in 86 AB and put up a 164 PX. While Martinez may be a short-term threat to Davis’ playing time, Dirks will be a much bigger factor in limiting Davis’ AB when he returns.
