PT TOMORROW: AL CENTRAL—Hardy honing his skills

The injury to Aníbal Sánchez (RHP, DET) and demotion of Bruce Rondon (RHP, DET) have opened the door for pitchers on the Detroit farm to get their shots in September.

Blaine Hardy (LHP, DET; pictured above) has been a workhorse at Triple-A Toledo, making 16 appearances of at least 0.2 IP since July 19. Make that an effective workhorse, as 13 of those outings were shutouts, with 22 K (19% SwK%), zero BB and a 47% GB% in 17 IP. His avoidance of walks is especially good news, as he'd given up nine BB (and nine ER) in his last seven innings with the parent club. Overall, he sports a 3.08 ERA with a 9.9 Dom and 0.7 Ctl in 38 IP with the Mud Hens.
