The Royals tried to shore up their pen by acquiring Brandon Maurer (RHP, KC) and Ryan Buchter (LHP, KC). However, each have their concerns (Maurer prone to the big inning, Buchter with May walk problems), and Kelvin Herrera (RHP, KC) has been going through a skills slump (54% FpK%, 5.0 Ctl, 4.34 xERA) over the last month.

Joakim Soria (RHP, KC; pictured above) began 2017 with five BB and a blown save in his first five outings. He was able to counter that with eight K and two hits in six IP, ending up with no ER. Since April 18, he's allowed just nine BB in 36 IP while maintaining an 11.5 Dom and 13% SwK%.
