PT TOMORROW: AL East — NYY may need to start to build around Carpenter

A recent injury to Aaron Hicks (OF, NYY) may have helped the Yankees stumble into an answer to a question that has only become more pressing as the season has gone on: How do we get Matt Carpenter (DH, NYY) some more at-bats?

While Hicks has been dealing with the after-effects of fouling a ball off his shin in a July 12 game, Carpenter has again been splitting time between DH and a corner outfield spot, much as he did when Anthony Rizzo (1B, NYY) was nursing lower back stiffness recently.

Hicks did enter New York’s July 15 game as a pinch hitter, so he seems to be on the cusp of resuming his regular gig in the New York outfield.

Nonetheless, at this point, finding ways to get Carpenter more at-bats would seem to be a...
