The deeper the slump of Aaron Hicks (OF, NYY) gets — he was 4-for-48 (.083) in May through May 19 — the more manager Aaron Boone is likely to be asked when the team is going to explore other options.

For now, Boone is publicly standing by Hicks, saying only that the team “needs to get him going.”

At least as the Yankees’ roster is currently constituted, the team has few alternatives. Aaron Judge (OF, NYY) has been asked to sub in center field on occasion, though the team seems not to want to overextend him in the field, lest it disrupt the massive contributions Judge has been making with the bat.

However, the Yankees have already this year occasionally allotted a roster spot to another center field option. If they do so...
