One of the top items on the Blue Jays’ offseason shopping list was left-handed bats, it seemed.

But as the calendar turns to May, the team’s two main acquisitions — Daulton Varsho (OF, TOR) and Brandon Belt (1B, TOR) — are making it tough to continue to give them at-bats.

Varsho’s average exit velocity is in the bottom five percent, and his chase rate is not looking so hot, either. He has managed to prop up his fantasy value a bit by stealing four bases and popping a couple of home runs, but he will need to pick up the pace with the hard contact to fulfill the promise Toronto saw in him when they made a significant trade to acquire him.
