While Tampa Bay’s front office pledges that the mass exodus of the team’s top talent ended with the trade of Jake Odorizzi (RHP, MIN), it may well turn out to be wise not to take that statement at face value.

That is particularly true when it comes to the team’s closer, Alex Colomé (RHP, TAM), now that he has started to get expensive. The team avoided arbitration with him this year by signing him to a $5.3 million one-year deal, and his price only figures to go up as long as he continues to rack up saves.

There is some reason to be skeptical of his ability to do so, as both of Colome’s Ctl and Dom slipped in 2017, in each case supported by the sub-indicators, FpK and SwK respectively. But the Rays will have strong...
