The battle between Taylor Walls (3B, TAM) and Isaac Paredes (3B, TAM) to secure the designation as the Tampa’s “primary” third baseman — to the extent there is such a thing — remains fascinating to watch. 

This had been a battle to which Walls was bringing his superior defense and ability to switch hit, while Paredes brought the “thump.” 

Then Walls had a red-hot first month of the season, and it seemed like he was trying to convince the Rays they could have their cake and eat it, too — the benefit of his defense without sacrificing much if any offense.

But while Walls continued to rack up the stolen bases in May (9-for-9 in stolen base attempts in the month, 14-for-14 on the season), he has not been able to keep up the...
