Is change coming soon to the first-base position in New York?

There are several signs that the answer may be “yes.” But then the next question is, “What kind of change?”

What we know is that Chris Carter (1B, NYY) has continued to struggle mightily to make contact (56% ct%), with a favorable hit rate perhaps the only thing keeping his batting average above the Mendoza line.

Meanwhile, Greg Bird (1B, NYY) is apparently nowhere near a return, with general manager Brian Cashman recently saying that he may be “weeks” away from returning, though manager Joe Girardi suggested that Bird may be able to resume baseball activities this week.
