One of the more underplayed aspects of the Blue Jays’ acquisition of new right fielder Randal Grichuk (OF, TOR) is that they had to give up perhaps their most highly skilled setup man, Dominic Leone (RHP, STL), to make it happen.

One acknowledgement of the void created by Leone’s departure is that the Jays have signed John Axford (RHP, TOR) to a minor league contract in the hopes that the 35-year-old former closer can rebound from the epic control woes that led to his release by the A’s last July.

While the team is not necessarily counting on a major contribution from Axford, it is counting on Ryan Tepera (RHP, TOR) and Daniel Barnes (RHP, TOR) being among the pitchers who form the bridge to closer Roberto Osuna (RHP,...
