Even with the expected departure of Alex Cobb (RHP, TAM) in free agency, the Rays figure to have a spirited competition to fill the rotation spots behind Chris Archer (RHP, TAM).

First, the Rays have a number of young pitchers who have gained experience in the major-league rotation this year, including Jake Faria (RHP, TAM), Matt Andriese (RHP, TAM), Blake Snell (LHP, TAM) and Austin Pruitt (RHP, TAM).

Snell is worth highlighting because he has shown far better control in August and September than he had up until this point in his major-league career. Snell’s FpK is dubious that he can maintain that level of control, he nonetheless may enter spring training with an inside track for a rotation spot.
