Could Clint Frazier (OF, NYY) unseat Brett Gardner (OF, NYY) as the Yankees starting left fielder to open the season?

Frazier has made it clear that his goal this preseason is to surpass his friend and mentor Gardner in the team’s plans for 2019. While the Yankees did spend $7.5 million to bring Gardner back on a one-year deal, a team with the resources of New York can afford to have a fairly expensive fourth outfielder, if that is what manager Aaron Boone decides is best for the team.

It would probably be what is best for fantasy owners, given the signs of age-related decline in Gardner’s performance, despite still-robust speed skills. Those skills would perhaps still have some value as a late-inning pinch runner and...
