PT TOMORROW: AL East—TAM’s Pearce among 11th-hour trade candidates

While most of the trade buzz around the Rays has centered on their starting pitchers—none of whom had been moved as of this writing—there is still some chance that the Rays could trade one of its position players as well.

Much of the speculation, understandably, has focused on Steve Pearce (1B, TAM), whose ability to mash left-handed pitching and play a number of positions would make him a valuable addition to the bench of a playoff contender.

Were Pearce to be moved, it would create at least a short-term issue for the Rays at first base, given that starter Logan Morrison (1B, TAM) is on the disabled list. It could, however, provide Tampa a spot to insert Nick Franklin (2B, TAM), who has hit and run well in his limited...
