A trio of SPs who have either been injured, underperforming or both now may be stepping up just at the right time, creating tough-but-good decisions for Mgr Lloyd McClendon. Concurrent with recently-demoted rookie Roenis Elías' 2H scuffles—4.80 ERA, 3.6 Ctl, 1.47 WHIP—James Paxton (LHP, SEA), Erasmo Ramirez (RHP, SEA), and Taijuan Walker (RHP, SEA) are all suddenly suggesting they might be factors in SEA's post-season bid.

Elias shouldn't be counted out, given that most of his issues appear to be the result of poor luck (37% h%) and perhaps some fatigue, as SEA attempts to limit his pitch-counts in his first full MLB season. His Triple-A demotion was reportedly to give him a breather and allow him to make a minor...
