Even with the return of Jean Segura (SS, SEA) reportedly imminent by the weekend, the interim play of his replacement Taylor Motter (SS, SEA) may have forced the Mariners into some tough early season calls. While filling in for Segura, Motter has gone 9-for-28 (.321) including three HR, three walks and plenty of loud contact through Monday.

Motter's athleticism and versatility have never been in question, and he played six different positions in a 2016 audition with TAM. But he also owns intriguing minor league plate skills (82% ct%, 10% bb%, 0.66 Eye in 1981 AB) that have been overlooked. A big swing resulted in some 2016 scuffles, when Motter posted a career-low .229 BA at Triple-A and just .188 (15-for-80) in his MLB...
