The primary intent of this space has always been to project playing time and role changes over the near and distant future vs. the immediate. But as GM Billy Beane reminded us this past week, we never can be sure of our OAK radar. Last week’s acquisition of Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel have dramatically altered the rotation’s make-up, and now suggests future shuffling out of that #5 spot between Jesse Chavez (RHP, OAK), Tommy Milone (LHP, OAK) and Drew Pomeranz (LHP, OAK)—including a periodic six-man rotation in an effort to keep all of the arms fresh. The trade with CHC has added depth along with some versatility, and likely some role-changing—similar to the A’s offense.
