A 4.88 team ERA is no longer MLB's worst—and though this is a relative thing, some glimmers of hope can actually be seen. The most obvious of these is that Shohei Ohtani (RHP, LAA) may be re-emerging as a bona fide rotation ace, as suggested by a 2.85 ERA, 12.9 K (14.9 SwK) over 47 IP. Ohtani's command still waivers often, as seen in his 5.3 Ctl, but there's no doubting his premium stuff. Like many current-day pitchers, Ohtani's biggest immediate risk is injury, magnified some by his two-way player status—and his pitch count/IP has been managed carefully due to mound inactivity since 2018. But right now Ohtani is again flashing a significant ceiling.
