The ongoing shoulder woes of Frankie Montas (RHP, NYY) has set up a spring battle between Domingo Germán (RHP, NYY) and Clarke Schmidt (RHP, NYY) to assume Montas’ vacated rotation spot for at least a month.

While some reports have suggested that Germán may have the “inside track” to win the role, fantasy managers looking to place a small bet that could yield a favorable return, especially in early drafts while their respective roles are still murky, may want to cast their lot with Schmidt instead.

As the Baseball Forecaster noted, Schmidt made some “nice gains” in the second half, albeit in a 34-IP sample that only included two starts.
