Even before the Cardinals’ decision to trade Harrison Bader (OF, NYY), Lars Nootbaar (OF, STL) was given the everyday role in right field with Bader on the injured list. That remained true even after Corey Dickerson (OF, STL) was activated, giving us a pretty clear indication that Nootbaar has surpassed Dickerson on the outfield depth chart. The next challenge for Nootbaar will be the impending return of Juan Yepez (OF, STL).

Previously, when the outfield was fully healthy, Yepez could serve as designated hitter. However, that has changed since Paul DeJong (SS, STL) has been recalled to play every day at shortstop. In turn, Tommy Edman (2B/SS/OF, STL) has shifted to second base and Nolan Gorman (2B, STL) to...
