The rotation has been hit hard with injuries, as both Michael Wacha (RHP, STL) and Jaime García (LHP, STL) landed on the disabled list, and Shelby Miller (RHP, STL) left his June 24 start due to back spasms. He's expected to be ready for his next start, though the situation bears watching.
Carlos Martínez (RHP, STL) has been transitioning to a starting role, though his workload has been minimized, as his longest outing previously had been 2 2/3 innings (and 47 pitches). He went four innings in his first start, then five in his second, and threw 59 and 74 pitches, respectively. In total, Martinez has allowed three runs, with an 8:5 K:BB ratio.
