Ethan Small (LHP, MIL) has gotten a lot of attention early in the season due to his performance with Triple-A Nashville. That has largely been deserved (33.3 K%, 0.3 HR/9, 1.95 ERA), however he’s shown no progress with his control (15.2 BB%), which was a factor that also plagued his game in 2021. While Small has been able to work around those free passes at Nashville, it’s difficult to imagine him doing so consistently in the majors. That has the potential to slow his promotion to Milwaukee.

However, it does not preclude him from a path to success. We’ve seen the Brewers maximize Freddy Peralta’s (RHP, MIL) potential despite the fact that he also consistently posted double-digit walk rates in the minors. More recently,...
