When Theo Epstein called for major changes in the midst of the team’s recent skid—in which they have failed to win any of their past six series—few would have imagined Robel García (INF/OF, CHC) as a potential solution. His ascent to the big leagues has been circuitous and long-awaited, as he first signed with a big league club in 2010 and hadn’t played in any professional system since 2014.    

However, after being dealt to the Cubs prior to the season, he quickly advanced through Double-A and Triple-A, combining to hit .285/.364/.594 across 291 plate appearances. Not only did he hit well, but he also made defensive appearances at every infield position besides catcher while also drawing a handful of starts in left...
