Tim Cooney (LHP, STL) did a fine job filling in over the past couple of weeks, as he compiled a 3.31 ERA over three starts, while striking out 14 batters in 16 1/3 innings. It's unclear at this point whether he'll get another turn in the rotation, or if Jaime García (LHP, STL) will be ready for activation, but for the immediate future, Cooney is the most likely candidate to fill in should Garcia miss another turn.

Garcia has been sidelined since injuring his groin while running the bases in the eighth inning of a June 24 start. At first, he wasn't expected to need a stint on the disabled list, but it was eventually deemed necessary. He should be back soon, and will be a huge boost to both the Cardinals and his...
