Joey Votto (1B, CIN) faced an injury scare last week after being pulled early from Wednesday’s action against Cleveland with back stiffness. It was his second documented instance of dealing with a cranky back this season, though based on his season-long numbers (16 BPV, 80 PX, .232 xBA), there’s certainly the potential that his back has never been right. Miguel Cabrera (1B, DET) battled back injuries in 2017 prior to putting together two of the worst seasons of power production in illustrious career. While Votto was a different player from Cabrera in their prime, he serves as a reminder that stars can fall off quickly, especially if the decline is accelerated by injury.
