The acquisition of Sean Rodríguez (1B/2B/SS/OF, PIT) should lend some stability to a Pirates bench that has been a revolving door through much of 2017. It was a moved precipitated by the increasing likelihood that Jung-ho Kang (3B, PIT) has played his last game as a Pirate due to his legal issues. Rodriguez is signed through 2018, making the trade as much about next season as the current one. Rodriguez missed the first half of 2017 due to injuries sustained in an offseason car crash. So far, the power breakout he experience in 2016 (18 HR and 167 xPX in 300 AB) has carried into 2017: he has four HR and a 155 xPX through 57 AB.
