Since Joey Votto (1B, CIN) suffered a broken thumb nearly two weeks ago, there has been a ripple effect along the Reds’ infield that could have long-term consequences this season. In Votto’s absence, Eugenio Suárez (SS/3B, CIN) has started exclusively at his natural position of third base and Kyle Farmer (SS, CIN) has started every game at shortstop. Farmer has actually performed fairly well in 83 at-bats this season in some regards (82 ct%, 113 xPX), but his overall profile remains underwhelming (16 BPV). Zooming out a bit further, the team has gotten combined production of a 66 wRC+ and .269 wOBA from the shortstop position this season.
