The experiment of using Rafael Montero (RHP, NYM) in the bullpen has apparently drawn to a close, at least for now. Montero scuffled a bit (4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 7 K) in four relief appearances. The 24-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on April 17 so that he could get stretched out to start against the Marlins on April 28. For now, the Mets are calling this a spot start, but might it be more than that?

As discussed here last month, Montero very nearly beat Dillon Gee (RHP, NYM) for the fifth starter job coming out of spring training.
