The ongoing Mets ownership fracas has managed to suck the oxygen out of the remainder of the offseason. As we noted in our first preseason peek, the team has added some potentially useful pieces but also whiffed on bigger-ticket acquisitions. Francisco Lindor (SS, CLE) was reportedly targeted in trade talks, as was Starling Marte (OF, ARI), but neither player will be relocating to Flushing. Those two would have represented upgrades—Lindor much more clearly than Marte—but they didn't address areas of great need, as the Mets already have an ascendant Amed Rosario (SS, NYM) at short and a fully-staffed outfield.
