The Mets’ boom-or-bust rotation has been busting in multiple areas of late. Jason Vargas (LHP, NYM) has been completely ineffective (13.86 ERA, 2.68 WHIP) since returning from a season-opening DL stint on April 28. And Zack Wheeler (RHP, NYM) has produced an 8.44 ERA while allowing opposing hitters to log a .942 OPS during May. Fortunately, Seth Lugo (RHP, NYM) has emerged as a viable rotation replacement while dominating opponents as a reliever. Lugo has tossed 13 scoreless innings this month, and he has logged two appearances in May that each spanned three innings. He has thrown 35 or more pitches on five occasions this year, meaning what he can likely be stretch out to 80 pitches in the span of just a couple starts....
