Steven Matz (LHP, NYM) and Seth Lugo (RHP, NYM) returned from the disabled list over the weekend and pitched well. Meanwhile, Robert Gsellman (RHP, NYM), who was briefly pushed to the bullpen in mid-May, has been the team’s most effective starter since slotting back into the rotation on May 24 (2.16 ERA, 6.5 Dom and 2.5 Ctl in 25 IP). That left the Mets trying to figure out what to do with six starting pitchers.

Manager Terry Collins has decided to utilize a six-man rotation for at least a turn or two. The Mets, on June 9, began a run of 18 games in 17 days, so that idea makes plenty of sense.
