PT TOMORROW: NL East—Nats have long-term options with red-hot Adams

Washington Nationals

Matt Adams (1B, WAS) has been one of baseball’s best hitters during May (seven homers, 1.249 OPS), but he still may not have a long-term spot at first base with the Nats. After all, while Ryan Zimmerman (1B, WAS) has struggled this season (.217/.280/.409 slash line), his batted-ball data (41.8 percent hard-contact rate, .233 BABIP) shows that he has been unlucky in 2018 after being one of the team’s best hitters (.303 average, 36 homers, 108 RBIs) a year ago. When Zimmerman returns from the disabled list, manager Dave Martinez will need to give him a fresh opportunity. And with Adam Eaton (OF, WAS) expected to be sidelined for months rather than weeks, his spot in left field could belong to Adams at some point....
