The shortstop situation is still a bit uncertain in New York. Rubén Tejada (SS, NYM) currently appears to be the favorite to open the season as the starter, provided someone isn’t brought in from outside the organization, but it seems pretty clear that the team doesn’t have much confidence in him. For now, he is expected to be out of action until late in the week with a hamstring issue.

Wilmer Flores (3B/2B, NYM) will reportedly have a real chance to earn the job over the next few weeks. He was originally a shortstop, but the team decided to move him following the 2011 season. The 22-year-old could provide much more with the bat (.321/.357/.531 with 15 HR in 424 AB with Triple-A Las Vegas in 2013) than Tejada, even if he...
