Seth Lugo (RHP, NYM) had been thought to be fighting for a spot in the Mets bullpen in lieu of a trip to Triple-A Las Vegas; however, newly signed Jason Vargas (LHP, NYM) suffered an injury and then came down with the flu delaying his preparations for 2018 and veteran Zach Wheeler (RHP, NYM) pitched so poorly this spring, he’s the one who is heading to Vegas. Lugo has been a mediocre contributor to the Mets over the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He’s thrown 165 innings with a 4.24 xERA and an 80 BPV. Vargas has already resumed preparations for the season, so Lugo’s tenure in the rotation could be short.
